(November 8, 2009) – I want to thank of the
Citizens of Sammamish that encouraged me to run again for the Sammamish City Council. I received a call from my opponent
on Thursday congratulating me (us) regarding the election (the results will officially be certified on November 23rd).
As a first-time candidate in the 2007 election it was a close race, and I committed to run again this year since
I like many of you still desired to improve the quality of life for residents. Sammamish is a wonderful place to
live. However, after knocking on 1,764 doors and talking with many fellow Citizens, I heard loud and clear
that we do not have enough facilities for our youth and teens and other members of our community. I now plan to
work diligently to make Sammamish an even better place to live. As the Parks
and Recreation Advisory Committee Co-Chairperson, I advocated for a comprehensive approach to providing more amenities for
the city. I supported the Parks Bond that received over 50% of the vote on the 2008 ballot. I am committed
to creating the facilities we need through partnerships and other means as soon as possible. By working together,
we can now create a legacy that will benefit everyone, and future generations. In addition
to parks and recreation, I have two other critical issues that I intend to address once I formerly take office: 1) Fixing
roads and providing more transportation options, and 2) making sure Sammamish lives within its means. As a Plateau resident who has worked in the community, I heard the needs of the citizens, and I intend to continue
to listen to your concerns and make decisions in on your behalf in a smart and fair manner. Unfortunately,
due to the declining real estate values and the pressures this puts on a City with a large residential tax base, I will be
working on solutions to diversify our local economy in order to generate necessary revenues to ensure our financial
future. As a 14-year resident of the Sammamish Plateau, I have been an active member of the community,
and my direct participation has given me a hands-on understanding of the issues that define the City of Sammamish.
I want to thank my wife, Christy, my three sons and numerous supporters for allowing me to give back to the
Community.
All the best,
John James
